Coral spawning has begun!
Coral spawning has begun in Onna village, Okinawa Main Island on May 19, 2019. It usually occurs in Okinawa from May ~ June, when the water is warm enough, at around new & full moon.
According to the local divingshop, Blue Leaf, the spawning was observed at their original dive site “Sango Beauty” (“Sango” means coral in Japanese), where many different kinds of corals thrive. There are some corals that spawn early, and their spawning was observed at around 7:30 p.m. The rest was observed at around 9:30 p.m. ~ 10 p.m.
In order to watch the spawning, you must know which corals are about to spawn beforehand. After you find these corals, all you need to do is wait patiently for the time to come. The small pink coral eggs floating away into the dark night sea is such an amazing sight!
Is watching coral spawning on your bucket list? Next spawning is June. Come visit Okinawa and witness the beauty of nature.
